Lenses supplied by Rainbow CCTV are being employed by Tyco Integrated Systems (TIS) as part of a dedicated ANPR system installation at the Port of Dover.

The Port is the start-point for carrying more passengers to continental Europe than Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted put together, with ferries entering or leaving its space every nine minutes as a result of the Port鈥檚 prime location immediately adjacent to the world鈥檚 busiest shipping lanes.

The lenses are deployed as part of a surveillance control system which allows vehicle number plates to be checked in real-time against the Police National Computer and any lists compiled by local law enforcement agencies.

TIS eventually opted for Rainbow鈥檚 8.5-51 mm vari-focal model. With a focal length this size, these lenses are more correctly referred to as 鈥榲ari-zoom鈥�.

The models used boast auto-iris functions able to cope with varying light levels. They also offer added depth and width to the field of view by way of a special focal length variant devised by Rainbow CCTV.

The system operates on multiple lenses, and offers the end user alerts via pager, audible alarms and Control Room displays.
