English Partnerships is to spend 拢154.6m on saving hundreds of homes in Bath from collapsing into abandoned mines.

The ODPM announced the funding on Wednesday following concerns that about 350 private homes housing about 1500 people were located on 鈥渢hin crusts鈥 of ground, which were in some places only a few metres thick.

The homes are situated above the Combe Down Stone Mines, from which stone was excavated for the building of the city. During the last three years, an interim EP grant of 拢23m has been spent on emergency work to stabilise the work in the worst affected areas.

The council said it was 鈥渄elighted鈥 with the support.
