The expertise of customer Quantum Windows Ltd in manufacturing the Plastmo Charisma vertical sliding window has won the company a starring role on BBC TV’s ‘DIY SOS’ programme.
Quantum was approached as it is one of the leading Charisma fabricators, with a dedicated vertical slider production line within its 78,000 square foot Corby premises. The DIY SOS programme’s project involved the refurbishment of a Victorian terrace house with existing timber box sash windows that had seen better days. Specifically, a large former bedroom was being converted to a modern bathroom and a large vertical slider was needed to retain the property’s period character. Manufacturing and installation time was tight, with only a three week timespan from initial contract to filming. Quantum Director Tony Britten decided on personal involvement and with Graham Willis from customer G&N Windows of St Albans, duly installed a large 1100mm x 1900mm Charisma vertical slider; the lower sash glazed in Canterbury obscure with clear upper sash. Hardware and fittings were are all chrome finish to complement the contemporary style bathroom project.
The Quantum team’s new polo shirts from Plastmo drew some comments from the film crew, explained Tony Britten: ‘With their noted sense of humour, we received some ragging from the TV crew about the newness of our tops and, despite their excellent hospitality each night, we were able to start work each day with relatively clear heads.’
Quantum has been invited to participate in another filming project shortly.
