WHAT: A housing scheme at 94 Uxbridge Road in Shepherd鈥檚 Bush, West London, featuring curves, a landscaped roof garden, private terraces and a children鈥檚 playground.

WHEN: Work started in July 2003 and was finished in August 2005.

ARCHITECT鈥橲 VIEW: 鈥淭he challenge was to design a scheme that while being high density and of a high architectural quality also met the authority's requirements for generous amenity areas for the inhabitants, as well as enhancing the site in line with the council鈥檚 nature conservation policy by way of extensive landscaping and roof gardens鈥� 鈥� Robert Hopkins, Monahan Blythen

VITAL STATS: The scheme comprises 45 dwellings, including 37 flats, six family maisonettes and two houses. Twelve of the homes are 鈥渟hared ownership鈥�, the remaining 33 are 鈥済eneral needs affordable鈥�. The overall density is 656 rooms to the hectare. Of the accommodation, 68% is for families.

MATERIALS: The building was constructed using a concrete frame with brick and timber cladding and its roofs are covered with aluminium. Certain corners are raised, curved and clad in treated western red cedar.
