It also addresses the problem of enforcing Ðǿմ«Ã½ Regulations by calling for a named person to take responsibility for ensuring compliance. The new bill also aims to bring currently exempt buildings under the remit of regulations – including schools.
The security aspect of the bill covers matters such as the potentially competing needs of fire safety and home security – in this case, the bill calls for guidance from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
Government would also be obliged to report to Parliament on its progress towards making the UK building stock more sustainable and crime resistant.
CPA chief executive Michael Ankers says: "This bill would make a valuable contribution to the government's goals of sustainability and improving the quality of the built environment". He added that the bill would improve the enforcement of existing regulations and ensure the government reports on progress in improving the built environment.
