The ECA has had a busy summer. Firstly, the Association has been awarded approved scheme operator status under TrustMark.

This is important because we want consumers to recognise ECA members as meeting the highest standards. Our participation in the scheme is another way of setting members apart as representative of high quality, good value and safe electrical installation. TrustMark will be free to members registered on a Part P scheme and further information will follow soon on how to sign up.

Secondly, the government’s recent U-turn on the Home Information Pack was a major disappointment as it was hoped that the requirements set out in the Home Condition Report would make potential buyers more aware of the importance of electrical safety. We are urging government to re-look at the decision to dilute the pack and to ensure that essential safety issues are covered.

Finally, the Employment Business Forum between ECA, Amicus and the labour agencies has been agreed and will provide a first step to necessary dialogue between employers and labour agencies. Labour agencies make up 50% of the labour force, therefore it is hoped that the forum will assist better working practice and benefit contractors regarding employment issues moving forward.
