Increased collaboration and convergence is becoming a key feature of the m&e sector, as trade associations work together for the benefit of their particular members and the sector as a whole.
The ECA actively pursues collaboration with other trade associations. Pooling resources, effort and expertise results in greater effectiveness, efficiency and economy.
In particular, the ECA continues to develop strong programmes of collaboration with the HVCA and SELECT.
The Association’s Commercial, Contracts and Legal Committee meets with HVCA’s Commercial and Contractual Committee as the Joint Commercial Committee, which permits operational convergence and provision of joint publications and membership services.
A key focus for the future, however, must be the rationalisation of labour arrangements. Clients are often staggered at the complex differentiation between mechanical and electrical contractors on tenders and contracts. They are calling for convergence, and members active in electrical and mechanical disciplines perceive it as a route to increased productivity.
The ECA is also working closely with the British Security Industry Association, British Fire Protection Systems Association, Association of Street Lighting Electrical Contractors and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers.
There are many new challenges facing trade associations and their members. Increased collaboration and convergence will help turn these into opportunities.
