The ECA has always championed the cause for education and training. It is fully supportive of award schemes that recognise the efforts that apprentices undergo to meet the demanding professional requirements of being a competent electrical operative. And the support they receive from employers does not go unnoticed.
Two award schemes deserve special mention. First, the ECA Apprentice Awards, which for over 35 years has rewarded apprentices who have attained the very highest academic standards to meet the requirements of their profession. Second, there are the ECA Edmundson Awards, which for over 28 years have provided true recognition for apprentices who have undergone considerable education and training to meet the required standards within the industry. The calibre of the candidates presented for both these awards has always been impressive.
These awards are proof that contrary to certain media reports, many talented young people are seeking the technical vocational route and wishing to make a welcome contribution to our industry. This can only be good news for the future of the sector.
