ECA director David Pollock has said that the ECA and HVCA must work together if they are to deliver for members.
Speaking at the ECA conference in Rhodes in May, Pollock said: 鈥淎ssociations need to work on a joint electrical and mechanical basis. If we don鈥檛 do that we will be unable to deliver for m&e companies and crucially, we will miss the chance to give a better deal to the single discipline companies that make up the majority of our memberships.鈥
In the Netherlands, it was the energy saving agenda that prompted trade associations to merge five years ago, 鈥渁 pregnant possibility in the UK,鈥 said Pollock. 鈥淚 think we should recognise that there is more that binds us than separates us, and that our mission is best achieved co-operatively.鈥
There have been many convergence talks over the years but Pollock feels that the time is now right. 鈥淭his is not the first time convergence has been on the agenda, but I sense that, largely thanks to the sustainability agenda, there is now a greater probability of effective co-operation than ever before.鈥
