The past year has seen a number of launches of Euro compliant PIRs. These now range right up to Grade 4 systems, and still form the cornerstone of any intruder system…
More than meets the Eyetec
Siemens Ðǿմ«Ã½ Technologies says its new Eyetec products "are much more than simply motion detectors - they're sophisticated integrated motion detection systems in compact, stylish housings".
Their anti-blocking feature, which detects masking attempts over a wide visual field, means that, according to SBT, these units are "the only products of their type which meet the stringent requirements for use in EN50131 Grade 4 applications. While a number of other detectors are available in the market which combine a PIR sensor with a camera, only Siemens Eyetec products perform a visual alarm analysis".

Robust detector
Honeywell has introduced the IS215TQ quad element, a passive infrared motion sensor that conforms to the new Euro standards Grade 2.
"Like having two detectors in one small discrete unit, the IS215TQ is a robust PIR ideal for small commercial or residential premises," Honeywell says.
"As with all Honeywell sensors, it is easy to install - with direct in line switch programming and mounting flexibility on walls and corners for full coverage.
"It features the IntelliSense patented look-down mirror, giving an optimum detection pattern directly beneath the sensor. "

Easy being Green
Rokonet's line of Grade 3 detectors includes perimeter and indoor models. The company has upgraded a number of detectors to comply with Grade 3, Class II standards: the iWise Greenline DT AM 15m and 25m, iWise Quad AM for indoor wall mount installations, and the LuNAR GreenLine DT, which it claims is the only ceiling mount Grade 3 detector currently available.
The iWISE Green Line DT AM series of detectors comply with all relevant European and UK standards: EN 50131-1 Grade 3, PD6662 Grade 3, TS50131-2-4 Grade 3, Environmental Class 2.
The detectors have Active IR anti-masking and include Rokonet's patented Anti-Cloak Technology said to give superior detection and false alarm immunity.
The Green Line concept follows environmentally friendly guidelines by avoiding surplus radiation emission. The active MW channel can be disabled when the alarm system is in "unset" mode, eliminating surplus MW radiation while occupants are in the premises. This new concept is implemented in the iWISE Green Line DT AM series, available in two models; 15m and 25m coverage.
Another Grade 3 detector is the iWISE Quad AM with 15m coverage. iWISE Quad AM upgrades Rokonet's best selling iWISE Quad and CoSMOS Quad models to Grade 3 requirements, with the addition of active IR anti-mask and other features required for Grade 3 installations.

Robust and discreet
Cooper Security says its Scantronic range of PIRs uses modern techniques which eliminate the many types of interference that affect reliability of traditional detectors to guarantee superior long-term performance and reduce false alarms.
Designed to fit with any décor, the range uses common housings described as stylish and compact, robust and discreet.
The 420 is a domestic digital PIR, with 3D cylindrical optics providing a 12m 90 degree multiple curtain coverage with creep zone, and True Motion Recognition.
It also boasts adjustment-free fast installation with remote walk test; selectable event counter, one or two motion events; fully sealed optics; and solid state relay for silent operation. The Scantronic 430 Pet Tolerant Digital indoor motion detector uses PIR technology to detect movement of body heat to activate the alarm in the event of an intrusion.

Xeridyne launches
A new range of Xeridyne professional movement detectors is available from Cooper Security.
The QPID series PIRs are all suitable for use in Grade 2 systems, along with the QTEC XQ dual detector. The three further models in the QTEC range are suitable for Grade 3 systems.
Features include quad PIR sensors, pet tolerance, a new lens material which the manufacturers claim "has higher infrared transmission properties than any currently used in the industry worldwide", a new IR Pyro-sensor, digital circuitry, a reduction in lightning and electrical problems, anti-masking, and a combo-bracket for both wall and ceiling mounting.

Minimal installation
Pyronix's KX Series of detectors comprises 11 detectors in one common housing.
The KX Series has on-board selectable alarm resistor values of 6K8, 5K6, 4K7 and 1K, and tamper values of 5K6, 4K7, 2K2, and 1K, catering for most control panels on the market.
"When using the KX Series in-built EOL resistors, installation is kept to a minimum, with no awkward wiring or checking resistor colour codes," Pyronix says. "Simply move the header links supplied to the resistor values required. "

Grade 3 addition
Texecom has launched the AMQD Plus Anti-Masking Digital Quad PIR, the latest addition to the company's range of Grade 3 systems solutions.
The detector is suitable for installation in harsh environments, and utilises optically enhanced active IR anti-masking technology.
The detector signals alarm, tamper, masking and fault conditions along a single pair of wires, requiring only one panel zone.
Features include 15m detector range, local and remote self test functions, remote LED enable, creep zone/crawl detection, and wall tamper detection.

More PRO from Vision
Vision Fire and Security is expanding its range of PRO PIR detectors for use in perimeter and area applications. The range includes both curtain style detectors for perimeter solutions and volumetric detectors for area protection.
The PRO series features sensing areas that will detect people up to 150m away by sensing temperature differences between them and the background.

Turn on your Blue Line
A new generation of aesthetically-designed, high technology intrusion detectors – Blue Line – has been launched by Bosch Security Systems to provide the optimum performance and maximum flexibility for installers working in virtually any residential/light commercial environment.
The range – designed with a distinctive horizontal blue crescent – comprises four models and a choice of camera modules to reduce an installer's inventory whilst still giving him the technology he needs. The detectors cover all ranges up to 11m (35ft) without adjustments and provide user-selectable, lock-down zones.
The Blue Line detectors feature an easy-to-mount, two-piece design. All electronics and a sealed optical chamber (providing draft and insect immunity) are incorporated into the front cover that attaches to the blank base. A convenient plug-in terminal strip makes for easier access to the wire terminals, whilst a screw-less cover lock also further simplifies installation.
