Scheme at renamed 18 Blackfriars includes 47-storey office block designed by Foster & Partners
The developer behind one of the largest jobs due to be built In London is looking to recruit someone to be in day-to-day charge of the scheme, ǿմý understands.
US firm Hines is hoping to start work later this year on the 18 Blackfriars project, now renamed the Round, which is expected to cost upwards of £1bn.
ǿմý understands Lipton Rogers remains development manager but that Hines has now begun the process to bring in its own person to run the job which is expected to start construction later this year.
One source said Hines was looking at “increasing internal resources as it gears up for construction” on the scheme.
Bids for the £100m enabling and basement package went back last year while tenders for the main construction work were returned in the spring.
No decision on either has been made on either although the enabling package is down to Keltbray and Careys, after pitches from Expanded and McGee fell away. Meanwhile, Multiplex is up against a pairing of Bovis and McLaren for the three towers with this job worth at least £900m.
In a statement, Hines said: “‘We are in live analysis of all main contractor bids and no decision has been made.”
The development includes a £600m office tower, more than 400 residential units as well as retail, cafes and restaurants.
The Round involves building a 47-storey office tower, designed by Foster & Partners, as well as two residential towers, of 45 and 25 storeys, also designed by the practice.
The job, which is being funded by the National Pension Service of Korea, will be Hines’ biggest in the capital with Hines hoping for completion in 2030.
