P+HS, AHR and HDR join team to replace RAAC-filled health facility

A design team has been appointed to a £1bn-plus hospital project in West Yorkshire.

Plans for Airedale General Hospital, which was include in the first wave of New Hospital Programme funding, will be brought forward by P+HS Architects as lead consultant.

AHR Architects and HDR have also been named on the design team, which is supported by engineering partners Curtins and Aecom, project managers Gleeds, and Archus, providing healthcare expertise.

The hospital is situated near Keighley and serves parts of West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

The proposed development will replace the existing hospital, which is full of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete, and will be designed using the latest Hospital 2.0 principles.

Alastair Stewart, programme director for the securing the future programme at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are delighted to have made this key appointment for our programme, which will allow us to start work on designing a new hospital for Airedale.

“The team will be supporting us to use the latest design and technology approaches and to deliver the Hospital 2.0 model in a way that best meets the needs of the population we serve.”

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a council report set the funding envelope for the rebuild at between £1bn and £1.5bn.
