British architect Zaha Hadid, in association with long-standing collaborator Patrik Schumacher and Urban Design consultant Ricky Burdett, has completed the masterplan for the 32.5 ha SoHo China development in Beijing, China. The plan combines exhibition, residential and green spaces, and aims to create an alternative urban heart for China's capital. The designers claim that the plan will break up the suburbanisation of Beijing, which has been based on closed, monofunctional estates.
