Facilities managers are to have a new representative body in the Property, Housing, Cleaning and Facilities Management Skills Sector Skills Council (PHCFMS).
The Council will represent employers, professional bodies and trade associations for 1.4 million workers at all levels. Of these, around 80 000 are facilities managers. The sector is worth £96 billion a year.

PHCFMS is one of 23 bodies introduced by government to boost learning and skills. The Council will also back research and development into new initiatives.
