Mowlem has been ordered to pay 拢20,000 for breaching safety laws at Bath Spa, following an investigation into the death of one of its workers there in 2003 - although the safety breach was not the cause of the death.

John Cox, 54, died two weeks after being found semi-conscious on the ground after checking work on a roof. A spokesperson for Mowlem told the BBC: 鈥淗aving pleaded guilty, Mowlem fully accepts the court鈥檚 sentence.鈥 But the spokesman added that the HSE accepted that the breach was: 鈥渋n no way either the cause of or a contributory factor in the unfortunate death of John Cox. 鈥 The company was fined 拢8000 and ordered to pay 拢12,000 costs at Bath Magistrates鈥 Court last month.
