MK Electric is hitting back at a wave of counterfeit and cheap imitation electrical products with legal action. In order to defend its registered design rights in the UK, the company has already started legal proceedings against one manufacturer.

The move comes on the back of criminal proceedings in Malta, where the police have taken action against an importer of counterfeit goods. At the same time, a joint initiative with trade association BEAMA has seen dozens of factories in several countries (including China) raided and counterfeit goods and production tools confiscated.

Mike Southgate, MK’s managing director said: “We are taking this very seriously as these products jeopardise MK’s reputation. In some instances [counterfeits] have already been proven to be dangerous.

“I want to send out a message to all manufacturers and importers to assure them that we will pursue legal action against any company found to be producing either counterfeits or products that infringe our intellectual property.â€
