House prices have hotted up this summer as demand outstrips supply (Express, 19 August).

Northern vendors were the greatest beneficiaries of the sale, with Liverpool leading the boom (Times, 26 August). Prices rose 1.5% in the city within a month. Sales were up 5% in July.

Dundee also saw a 23.7% price rise for the year to July. The Herald said the city was catching up with other parts of Scotland (19 August).

Padstow in Cornwall saw the biggest rises, with the average home going up from £109,833 to £233,084. The cause? The town’s resident celebrity chef Rick Stein (Daily Telegraph, 25 August).
