This time 10 years ago Glass Age’s multi-lingual guide to Glastec ‘94 anticipated that new coated glasses from Pilkington and PPG would be the exhibition’s highlights.
In our Replacement Window round-up, a youthful Robert Thiroff demonstrated Plastmo’s Index tilt-turn window (he’s now Sales Director, of course). Meanwhile, Lindman (now part of the Laird Group) donated a composite door for a project on TV’s ‘Challenge Anneka’ programme.
Bryan Hern, retiring as the GGF’s first director, gave an exclusive interview to record his views, and noted the success of new standards, the improving image of the industry, and his regrets: that there were still too many trade bodies working for narrow interests, and that the average payment time for members by contractors was 74 days.
Delving deeper, the glass-carrying Mini was one of the vehicle conversions advertised by FJ Keen in our August 1974 issue (Glass Age was quarterly back then). Among the diverse range of projects covered by founding editor Allan Plowman was the first lighthouse to be double or ‘dual’ glazed. Fancy that!
