Live-in history: English Heritage is calling for more attention to be paid to old houses, such as this 17th-century timber-framed Newark townhouse restored by Peter Jennison, that give character to the areas we live. The heritage organisation says one in five households live in a pre-1919 property, and that reuse of existing homes is more energy-efficient than building new ones.
