Action Energy, run by the Carbon Trust, is offering schools free consultancy on energy use.
Action Energy estimates that the average school could cut 23% off its energy bills. Potential savings could add up to £60 million across the education sector.
Services on offer include a free survey of current energy usage to identify a variety of low cost and no cost energy efficiency measures that can be simply implemented. Areas under scrutiny will be lighting, boiler control and heating systems as well as energy-saving software for IT equipment and simple good housekeeping.
Action Energy has already carried out a review at Needham Market middle school, where electricity bills dropped £800 in the first year after an energy efficiency policy was integrated into the school's development plan. Visit: www.action energy.org.uk
