This is the ninth Ðǿմ«Ã½ Service Awards.

This year we had close to 300 entries, which made it even harder than usual to pick the winners. The standard of entries, particularly with regard to the environment and sustainable solutions, was higher than ever, as our judges will attest. All our 2006 finalists, and especially the winners, demonstrate excellence in their field. But don't just take our judges word for it – this is the opinion of their clients as the testimonies supporting entries in many of the categories demonstrate.

Our thanks to the distinguished panel of judges, who spend a considerable amount of time and effort assessing and discussing the entries to ensure that the winners really are worthy of the accolade. A big thanks also to all our sponsors for their ongoing support for this event – their assistance helps make the Ðǿմ«Ã½ Services Awards the industry's most prestigious event.

We hope that these awards are a catalyst for positive change. Thank you to all those firms that took the time and effort to enter. And for those firms who did not make this year's shortlist, we hope that they continue to strive for even higher levels of excellence, with the aim of making it onto next year's shortlist. We trust you enjoyed the night and look forward to seeing you again next year.

How the winners were chosen

This year we had so many high quality entries that the judges' task was even more difficult than usual. The format for most categories was for entrants to complete a questionnaire covering everything from their financial performance, safety record to their investment in training. Entrants also provided details of a project, completed the previous year, which demonstrated their skills. Three panels of judges, made up of senior industry figures, determined the winners for each category based on this submission. The main exception to this format was for the Apprentice of the Year category, which was decided by both written and practical examinations.
