With 23 years' experience in the window fabrication business, Ayrshire Shopfronts Ltd's Director and Eurocell customer, Ken McKenzie faced his biggest challenge yet back in September, by taking part in an epic fund-raising venture with a friend.
As part of a 40-strong team, he travelled to the base camp of Mount Shishapangna, the highest mountain in Tibet and eighth highest in the world, in a bid to raise funds for national cerebral palsy charity, Scope.
Ken (pictured above in front of a Himalayan glacier), has been on walking expeditions throughout the UK and Europe, but this is the first time he has tackled anything of this magnitude – the mountain being around 8,000m high, with the base camp at 5,135m and oxygen at approximately 50%.
‘We read about the expedition in a mountaineering magazine and decided we'd like to take part’, said Ken. ‘We raised £3,000 for this very worthy cause and the complete team managed to raise over £150,000’.
Eurocell were one of Ken’s many sponsors and also provided a number of t-shirts and baseball caps that were donated to kids at an orphanage in Kathmandu before the group left for home.
