There was no love lost in the month of Valentines, as Keith Miller of Quality Tempered in Mansfield secured a memorable victory with his team, CNC United
The season is heading into an exciting finale and while Chelsea may be sitting comfortably at the top of the pile, the battle in the Pilkington Fantasy Football competition promises to go down to the wire.
February might have been a short month, but it was a long one for fantasy footballists. An incredibly tight battle saw Keith Miller rise to glory with his team CNC United. Keith works for Quality Tempered in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. There was no love lost in the month of Valentines, as Keith just about sneaked it, holding off the competition to secure a memorable victory.
Man United nut, Keith, counts boy genius Wayne Rooney, as the player he most admires and a touch of Rooney magic rubbed off on Keith as plotted his February victory. He comments: ‘Defence seemed to be the best method of attack with most points coming from a stout and sturdy defence. Both Chelsea and Liverpool have had strong seasons and are very mean at the back, so despite my United allegiances I went with Chelsea and Liverpool defenders. I do feel slightly ashamed to go against my red roots, but with the manager of the month in the bag, I'm sure I'll be able to live with myself.
‘Darren Bent of Charlton has been a constant in my team and his sharp shooting has certainly helped. Other than that, I wouldn't say there is any great secret to my success. February was a bit of an odd month because games were not necessarily scheduled at the normal weekend times. With lots of midweek features I just made sure that the players in my team were playing for their own teams to maximise the points. It was a case of keeping an eye on the fixture list and keeping my fingers crossed that players stayed injury free and didn't receive any bookings.
My wife didn’t understand my fascination with the game. I’m sure she can now.
‘One of the website elements that I felt was really useful was the form guide. I could see who was playing well, who was likely to be scoring points, or in certain cases, costing points. Again by using the transfers in a sensible way, I managed to pick up some extra points.'
Keith has won a weekend away at a Marriott Hotel and he will be treating his wife to a trip to London. They will be taking in a show as well as the sights. He comments: ‘I've received a fair amount of stick from my wife who didn't understand my fascination with the game. I'm sure she can now.'
