The Joint Security Industry Council’s highly topical 2004 Forum will focus on countering the ever-increasing terrorist threat in the UK
The ongoing THREAT of terrorist attacks ON UK shores has prompted the Joint Security Industry Council (JSIC) to focus upon counter-measures as the major theme of its 2004 Forum. Now in its fifth year, the Forum will take place on Wednesday 28 April at The Royal Court Hotel, Tamworth Road, Keresley, Coventry.

The Forum is designed to bring together the top practitioners in the field to share with delegates their understanding of the issues involved, and to suggest possible ways forward.

As JSIC’s official statement on the Forum states: “Homeland security is everyone’s business, but the actions and readiness of individuals must be tempered with common sense coupled with education. A well-informed public is better able to deal with disaster and react positively to it than those kept in ignorance.â€

KeyNote speaker this year is the Rt Hon Bruce George MP, chairman of the House of Commons Defence Select Committee. He’ll be followed onto the podium by Patrick Mercer MP, the shadow spokesperson for Homeland Security. Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner David Veness CBE QPM and Hampshire Constabulary’s assistant chief constable Colin Smith will then cover threats to national security and the counter-measures professionals can put in place.

Former Lincolnshire Police chief constable Richard Childs is due to speak on three very topical issues of the day – namely the extended police family, in-house security and exemptions to SIA licensing – while Professor Martin Gill of Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International will outline future training and career development needs within the private security sector.

Three very important seminars run concurrently with the Forum. These concern JobCentre Plus (covering employment issues in the private security sector), exporting (centering on UK Sidex and potentials for the industry) and the SIA (outlining the organisation’s proposals for the future).

  • The JSIC Forum is preceded by a special Gala Banquet at The Royal Court Hotel on Tuesday 27 April. Further details of both events are available by sending an e-mail to: jsic@jsic.co.uk, or take a look at the JSIC web site (www.jsic.co.uk/events)
