BP Solar is to work on the development of photovoltaic panels which can be incorporated into building structures.
This will be a joint venture with specialist glass manufacturer Romag. The two companies have been working on development of the product for six years.

The new product will give architects and engineers a photovoltaic option which is economical, widely available and easy to install.

Romag plans to install a £2.5 million production line at its Durham factory to make glass panels which will incorporate BP solar panels.

Charles Postles, BP Solar European performance unit leader said: “The product is very simple for installers to manage and once installed it is very low maintenance. It proves that technologies are available to deliver practical and economical solar energy systems.â€
