Security managers are at risk of losing control of surveillance buying decisions with the arrival of Internet Protocol (IP) technologies.
According to research carried out by Axis Communications at this year鈥檚 IFSEC Exhibition, 30% of buying decisions are still made by in-house managers, 24% by IT directors and 22% by company finance directors. However, over half of those installers, IT re-sellers, vendors and consultants questioned said they felt security managers were far more involved in buying decisions a couple of years ago.

Many pundits are also concerned about the lack of knowledge and education among the end user fraternity when it comes to IP-based surveillance solutions.

Dominic Bruning 鈥 UK managing director at Axis 鈥 told SMT: 鈥淚t鈥檚 the duty of all those in the surveillance market to look to the next generation of IP-based technology, educate themselves about the benefits of it and then seek to educate the market as a whole.鈥
