Over 80% of operational problems and callbacks on packaged air conditioning systems are caused by poor application or installation, according to Tony Gittings, general manager of LG, the air conditioning supplier.
Gittings blames an aggressive market and calls for greater co-operation between contractors, specifiers and manufacturers to improve contract values.
"Contractors' attitudes need to change. They need to give more attention to the final air conditioning package. Too often they sit outside the circle and undermine attempts to provide a complete package by trying to be too competitive on price," he said.
"They could also better their knowledge and reduce unnecessary callbacks by undertaking manufacturers' training and becoming more aware of legislation."
