The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) have launched a reciprocal partnership to produce a fast-track career pathway for ECS cardholders into membership of the IET.

Under the scheme 37,000 ECS installation electrician cardholders will be eligible to become technical members of the IET, which will allow them to work towards globally recognised qualifications such as chartered engineer, incorporated engineer or engineering technician.

In exchange, administrators of the ECS scheme, the Joint Industry Board and the Scottish Joint Industry Board, will offer a professional membership route to ECS in the second phase of this programme, later in the year.

ECS cards will now carry the logo of the IET.
