Hull council's cabinet has voted to demolish 600 homes in low-demand areas, at exactly the same time as the inspectors have again descended on the council.
Critics including Liberal Democrat ex-council leader Simone Butterworth have already branded the move a cynical ploy to fool the inspectors that the councillors are serious about dealing with the long-running problems with the council's housing investment strategy.
The plan, which was approved on Tuesday, includes a commitment to work with the government-appointed panel led by Lord Richard Best and tenants' groups to form a longer-term approach to housing.
