Stephen Howlett, chief executive of Amicus Housing Association, is to be the new chief executive of the Peabody Trust.
He plans to take the trust back to its roots of tackling poverty.

Peabody is the UK’s leading developing housing association and built 3885 homes in 2002/3.

But Howlett said: “It’s easy for people to forget that Peabody was set up for the relief of poverty. Housing is a key part of that, but I also want to look at anti-poverty in a wider context and perhaps work with people Peabody hasn’t worked with before.â€

Howlett, who will replace current chief executive Richard McCarthy in March, has been in charge at Amicus since 1999 and is also a member of the National Housing Federation’s executive board and national council.
