Peabody is the UK’s leading developing housing association and built 3885 homes in 2002/3.
But Howlett said: “It’s easy for people to forget that Peabody was set up for the relief of poverty. Housing is a key part of that, but I also want to look at anti-poverty in a wider context and perhaps work with people Peabody hasn’t worked with before.â€
Howlett, who will replace current chief executive Richard McCarthy in March, has been in charge at Amicus since 1999 and is also a member of the National Housing Federation’s executive board and national council.
