I would like to hope that most housing professionals are dedicated to supporting and strengthening communities. I also hope they would agree that invidious stereotyping is the engine of racism and intolerance.

I must ask, therefore, what purpose is served by the cartoon and accompanying 鈥渏oke鈥� in Social animal on 27 June (page 21)? Is portraying the people of Liverpool as criminals an attempt to endear us to your publication or simply envy of a fine city who have won something prestigious against the odds? You would do well to remember that Liverpool鈥檚 crime rate is lower than that of London or Manchester and that this is a city fighting to rebrand itself 鈥� sound familiar?
