Capital Safety Group Northern Europe (CSGNE), with its leading brands Sala and Protecta, is at the forefront of the drive to ensure the safety of people working at height – not only through its equipment but also in the important area of safety training.
The type of equipment available to ensure safety at height includes the Exofit Harness, part of the world-renowned Sala range, with built-in cushioned pads to make it suitable for all-day use, while its X-shaped design reduces physical trauma in the event of the fall.
Sala also has Fall Protection Blocks, including Ultra Lok, which is designed to arrest a vertical fall safely and comfortably. Ultra Lok features an audible indicator in the event of a fall, as well as a swivel anchorage to prevent lifeline tangling.
Among the latest additions to the Protecta range are the Silver Back harness and The Rebel – perhaps the smallest and most versatile webbing fall arrester yet. Silver Back has been specifically designed for ease of fitting and maximum comfort for workers at height who have to spend many hours in harnesses. A lightweight full-body fall arrest harness, it features contoured comfort pads around the shoulders and waist.
The Rebel, weighing just 1.3kg, is fitted with a swivelling anchorage point as standard. Its three metres of webbing allows the user to cover a bigger area than a traditional lanyard or fall arrest block, without having to disconnect. The rapid locking system limits a fall to a few centimetres.
As well as using the right equipment, it is crucial for workers to be trained in height safety. CSGNE has set up the Health & Safety Training Academy (HSTA) at its premises in Runcorn, Cheshire. The Academy has also formed a strategic partnership with the British Safety Council. The state-of-the-art facilities cater for all aspects of working at height.
The new regulations will make all aspects of safe working at height essential. The equipment and the training are readily available, so there can be no excuses.
