The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has decided to extend the licensing development period for security consultants until "late 2007".

After consultation with the industry and having reviewed its own research, it was apparent to the Regulator that "the potential scope of activities undertaken by security consultants is diverse and wide-ranging".

As a result, the SIA has acknowledged the requirement for wider consultation that will identify all relevant spheres of interest.

Commenting on the announcement, SIA chief executive John Saunders told SMT: "As the Regulator we must pinpoint the full scope of activities conducted by security consultants, determine any risks posed to the public that would justify intervention and eliminate any unnecessary regulation. This extension allows us to do just that."
