Lisa Robinson – a security officer working for the Preston office of Reliance Security Services – has become the first private sector officer to be accredited by the police service, with Lancashire's chief constable Paul Stephenson bestowing the award.

Speaking about Lancashire's inaugural accreditation, chief constable Stephenson told SMT: "We advised all Local Authorities on the benefits of accreditation. Since then eight of them have involved themselves in the initiative, and there have been 54 individual accreditations."

David Cairns – md of Reliance's northern regional operation – added: "Crime fighting initiatives like this demonstrate that professional, well-trained security personnel have a key role to play in the wider policing family."
