The SEC Group and industry reform group Be have called on government to protect ProCure 21 in the wake of plans to abolish NHS Estates.
In a letter to Lord Warner, parliamentary under-secretary for the Department of Health, the SEC Group chief executive Rudi Klein praised ProCure 21 for helping the construction industry “become more efficient, productive and profitable”.
He lauded NHS Estates for challenging the industry to innovate; include specialist contractors early; and for fairer supply chain relations. He called for it to remain within the public sector or risk losing its authority.
In a separate letter to Lord Warner, Be chief executive Don Ward warned of the danger facing NHS Estates and stressed the importance of the Procure 21 framework. He concluded: “ProCure 21 is a good start but much remains to be done and in abolishing NHS Estates you risk throwing out the baby with the bath water.”
