Managed lighting systems from Ex-Or are helping the South-East England Development Agency (SEEDA) gain BS EN ISO 14001, the standard for environmental responsibility and sustainability.

The Ex-Or MLS Digital Managed Lighting System has been installed throughout SEEDA’s five-storey HQ in Guildford, Surrey, in a bid to eliminate unnecessary use of office lighting.

Electricity consumption has been cut by 151% – an annual saving of up to £9000. Payback should be just over two years.

The original luminaires, installed when the building was built in 1989, were giving an overall lighting level of 650 lux, much higher than required.

Consultant ABS recommended that efficient lighting control, combined with up-to-date light fittings, would bring this down to 400 lux. Lighting control would also ensure lights only came on when needed.

M&E contractor Edmund Services completed the project out of hours over a six-week period, to minimise disruption.

The two recessed 36 W LG2 Cat 2 light fittings were replaced by four 14 W T5 ALD Lighting Fusion luminaires.
