The Government has launched a three-month public review of Britain's future energy policy - a process which some fear could herald the construction of a new generation of nuclear power stations.

The review is being led by the DTI's secretary of state and minister for energy, Malcolm Wicks, and will examine all aspects of the energy system including both supply and demand. Speaking at the launch, Wicks said "They [the energy challenges] are complex, inter-related and call for a rational, evidence-based and grown-up debate. There is no single simple option that will answer all the questions we're asking and no tick-box yes or no answers. As well as energy supply, we also need to look at demand. I am determined that we make the connection between this review and the energy we consume in our everyday lives."
