The electrical industry鈥檚 main member association and consumer protection body have joined forces to launch a pan-industry Qualified Supervisors card scheme.
The ECA and NICEIC have agreed jointly to support the extension of the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) by launching a pan-industry Qualified Supervisors card scheme.

The move will provide a straightforward certification of competence for qualified supervisors employed by electrical firms.

Following discussions, both organisations recognised the pre-eminence of the ECS as the established competence card scheme for tradespeople. The new card provides endorsement of Qualified Supervisors as a sector of the industry who certify the safety of work carried out by firms on all kinds of electrical installations.

With the expected introduction of Part P of the 星空传媒 Regulations it is also intended that the new card will be made available to Qualified Supervisors working within the domestic sector. This initiative will protect consumers and also discourage cowboy contractors, as only card-holding ECS Qualified Supervisors will be able to certify, on behalf of competent firms, the safety of electrical installations within the home.

Greeting the launch of the new card, Sir Michael Latham, chair of the JIB, the body responsible for administration of the ECS card, said: 鈥淭his is a welcome example of the principal trade association and the principal consumer protection body in the electrical contracting industry working together to provide industry-wide certification schemes that confirm the levels of competence and health an safety awareness.鈥
