On making the announcement, acting chief executive of SITO (and chief executive of the BSIA) David Dickinson told SMT: "I'm very pleased to see the SITO Board strengthened in this manner, and to see the work that Stefan Hay and George Cross in particular have done over the past months for SITO recognised in these latest appointments. In William Taylor we have secured the services of a hugely respected figure, and his expertise will be invaluable."
Dickinson continued: "This is a highly important time for SITO. The training requirement that forms part of the licensing process under regulation clearly has significant implications for the organisation. Training – and the quality and availability of that training – is fundamental to the future success of the industry. SITO aims to lead the way on this front, using all of the experience and skills developed by the organisation and its employees during the past decade or so. The SITO Board needs to be seen to provide strong leadership."
William Taylor is a past chairman of the ACPO Crime Committee for England and Wales, past chairman of the ACPO Advisory Group on Irish Republican Terrorism and an Honorary Member of the Executive Committee of Interpol. He currently works as a business consultant for the public and private sectors.
Stefan Hay's career in the private security industry began back in 1993, when he joined the Firm Security Group (now part of Chubb Security Personnel) as contracts manager for the Burton Group's 16 head office premises in London's West End (later taking over as the area operations manager for London and the south east).
In 1995, Stefan was promoted to national training manager, but then joined SITO in September 1998. He's a member of the British Standards Institution's GW3 Committee, and has been an active participant in all of the SIA Stakeholder Group discussions to date.
George Cross is the company secretary to the BSIA and its subsidiary concerns. During the past 17 years he has been instrumental in helping to create what is now the National Security Inspectorate as well as SITO itself.
