The JIB has announced the national roll-out of the new Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Datacommunications Card. The new certification will provide industry-wide levels of recognition for operatives working within the sector.
Commenting on the launch, Ron Allender, chief executive of the JIB, said: "This is yet another example of the industry moving ever towards industry-wide certification schemes that confirm levels of competence for skilled craftspeople. The datacommunications industry will benefit from this introduction."
Dave Stefanowicz, head of the ECA ITEC department, added: "This launch represents the increased recognition of the importance of the datacommunications sector to the industry."
Job descriptions on the card will include: Datacomms Engineer, Datacomms Technician, Advanced Datacomms Specialist, Datacomms Specialist, Datacomms Specialist Trainee.
In line with government concerns, all applicants for ECS cards will undergo a health and safety assessment.
