The cumbria strategic Partnership has advised the government to build affordable housing and second homes on designated sites in national parks.
The partnership, made up of housing provider Eden Housing Association, planners, economic developers, local authorities and community representatives, has been looking for solutions to the affordable housing crisis that has hit areas such as the Lake District.

Paul Davies, chief executive of Eden, said: "House prices in the Lake District are on a par with the Home Counties. Houses are way beyond the means of local people, so they are being forced away."

A document prepared by Davies and currently under consideration by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Housing Corporation recommends higher grant rates and more flexibility with total cost indicators.
