The installation of an air conditioning controls system at Stansted Airport has saved the client thousands, while keeping temperatures cool in the arrivals hall.

Passengers flying through the busy Stansted Airport north-east of London are being kept cool for lower cost while awaiting their flights.

The completion of an air conditioning controls installation at the airport has saved the client several tens of thousands of pounds in customised software routines, wiring and additional controls. The use of controls that are integrated with the chiller instead of standalone versions brings potential maintenance and replacement parts savings and regular energy savings from optimisation of plant operation.

Carrier Service’s turnkey project division installed a Carrier Chillvisor System Manager III to control the system temperature and sequence the chillers. The controls side of the retrofit installation cost £9000; the new chillers cost around £500 000. It ensures that they operate at peak efficiency at all times.

The installation of inverter-control for the chillers from the outset ensured energy efficiency. The addition of a Carrier electronic controls system brings greater energy savings by managing chilller use according to ambient temperatures.
