CIBSE has committed to develop and promote commissioning in the construction industry after signing a memorandum of understanding with the Commissioning Specialists Association.

It was signed on the first day of CIBSE’s 2007 National Conference. It will allow members of both organisations access to member benefits and services.

Roger Carlin, chairman of the CSA, said: “Concern over climate change and carbon emissions highlights the need for commissioning to be carried out correctly.â€

CIBSE used the conference to announce the launch of a Competent Person’s Scheme for thermal simulation software as part of the Low Carbon Consultants Register.

The proposal has been submitted to DCLG. If successful, the scheme will allow building control officers to accept thermal simulation modelling using proprietary dynamic simulation software to demonstrate compliance with Part L, rather than the government’s SBEM software.
