Although CIBSE makes no claims to perfection, its stance on promoting a low carbon approach to business practice, and life in general, is genuine.

For this reason the institution has been seeking to act responsibly in all areas of activity, including membership. In the case cited by the correspondent, it is true that only trained interviewers can undertake certain roles, technical report interviews being one such example.

While efforts are under way to ensure training is delivered to specialist interviewers, other means of conducting interviews are being researched in the interim.

For example, video conferencing facilities are now in place with the intention of offering interviews in special circumstances, without the need for excessive travel on the part of candidates or interviewers.

There are some issues to be resolved before making this available but it is anticipated that our quest for carbon sensitive activity will extend into this area in the very near future.
