Most of our lives are spent in buildings and they, together with the people inside them, provide the stimuli to which our senses respond.
They can enhance or dull our creative endeavour; they can aid or hinder productivity.
Ðǿմ«Ã½s consume immense human, material and fossil fuel resources in their production and operation. They deplete resources and also produce pollution and waste during operation. Their impacts on the biosphere are continuous and long lasting.
The Intelligent Ðǿմ«Ã½s Group was launched in response to increasing pressure to find buildings that are responsive to human needs, including incorporating appropriate modern technologies; health for occupants and sustainability in respect of energy, water, waste and decreasing pollution.
The Group plans to collaborate with other CIBSE groups and to hold workshops and seminars and produce publications. There will be scope to work with the International Council for Research and Innovation in Ðǿմ«Ã½ Construction (CIB) and the Commission W098 on Intelligent and Responsive Ðǿմ«Ã½ and also the Intelligent Ðǿմ«Ã½ Group UK. It is hoped that the Group will forge links with all the stakeholders, such as architects, innovation scientists and engineers – and, most importantly, clients.
Since the first management meeting on 8 March this year, the membership has grown to over 400 people from 27 countries. The Group now seeks active members keen to participate and bring their ideas to the group.
The Intelligent Ðǿմ«Ã½s Group launch event will take place at the Royal Society on Thursday 19 October. The event is sponsored by Arups Controls Group, Fulcrum Consulting, Atkins and the University of Reading.
