Retail recognition

Recognition technology specialist Neurodynamics has launched an electronic point of sale (EPOS) monitoring system in conjunction with retail monitoring specialist SIDG Ltd.

The system combines Neurodynamics' Witness Compact DVR with a POS monitoring system to provide video recording of images from a specified till, which is then superimposed with the relevant transaction data. Live or recorded images can be retrieved quickly and easily from a remote site 鈥 a central office, for example. The DVR can provide event-driven recording of activity at the till, increasing efficiency of subsequent searches and retrieval.

New for MuxLab

MuxLab has launched its PS/2 Converter (500045, 500046), which allows one PS/2 keyboard and one PS/2 mouse to be connected via Category 5 copper twisted pair cable in a point-to-point configuration for neater and more efficient cabling.

The PS/2 is a complementary product to MuxLab's VGA Balun, providing a more complete keyboard, video and mouse cabling solution, the company says. It allows PS/2 devices to be located up to 106m from the PC via Cat5 UTP cable.

Get more fibre

Inner Range has released its Concept Fibre Modem. Each pair of Fibre Modems has the capability to extend the Concept system's RS485 LAN by 3km. Up to ten fibre Modems may be placed between any two LAN modules, allowing the Concept LAN to be extended by up to 27km.

A pair of Inner Range Fibre Modems not only enables to LAN to be extended, but also accommodates the sue of existing multi-mode fibre optic cable, which is often pre-installed between buildings. This removes the expense and inconvenience of having to dig cable trenches and run additional cable, the company says.

Each Fibre Modem has two fibre optic connection points, allowing the modems to be arranged in either a loop-in and loop-out 'daisy-chain' configuration, or a fibre optic ring configuration for added redundancy.

March Networks has launched its advanced transportation solution, which includes the R5 Visual Intelligence Mobile Suite, designed to operate on the existing 5000 Series DVRs.

The R5 Mobile suite is a powerful software solution that combines high quality video with integrated GPS mapping and vehicle data capture over a wireless or wired network. It also allows operators to wirelessly monitor and manage the health of the DVR network without removing vehicles from service.

The March Networks 5000 Series encompasses Mobile DVRs for transit operations and Locomotive DVRs for freight rail.

Siemens 星空传媒 Technologies says its new range of high resolution TFT flatscreen monitors offer a wide viewing angle, long life, robust construction and a fast refresh rate.

Available in 15, 17 and 19-inch versions, the new monitors have tough metal housings and a protective glass pane. All offer two dedicated BNC video inputs, both with a loop-through option, an S-VHS input and a DVI port, and are suitable for use with composite video equipment and PC-based digital recorders.

A picture-in-picture facility allows two inputs to be displayed simultaneously. The monitors are also equipped with two audio inputs and outputs, and include integral loudspeakers.

Perimeter solution

PureTech Systems Inc and Southwest Microwave have cooperated to provide and integrated perimeter intrusion detection solution which detects a security breach and directs PTZ cameras to the point of intrusion.

PureTech develops wide-area surveillance and intrusion detection systems, including the PureActiv solution, while Southwest Microwave provides intrusion detection systems which include the Intrepid MicroPoint fence detection sensor cable.

The integrated solution detects intruders attempting to penetrate a fence and automatically steers PTZ cameras to the precise point of intrusion to catch the perpetrator in the act. The solution requires no camera presets, as SouthWest Microwave's Intrepid system provides the location of the intrusion to the PureActiv system, which translates that location to the precise latitude and longitude using GIS technology.

What a SmartCatch

NEC has introduced SmartCatch 2.5, the newest version of its intelligent video surveillance software, which now includes new applications for robust perimeter surveillance, integration of an advanced real-time alert management response system, and built-in support for leading access control systems and mobile communication devices.

The company says the system is able to monitor for and recognise suspect behaviour patterns of people, vehicles and objects, and send real-time alerts.

Other features include intelligent CCTV footage search and reporting tools, ATM specific model that monitors for machine tampering, loitering for PIN numbers, physical assaults at cash points and more. NEC claims SmartCatch 2.5 is a "cost effective solution that works with all existing digital and analogue CCTV infrastructures".

Recording the network

Panasonic System Solutions has launched its new WJ-ND300 Network Recorder. Boasting high image quality, high frame rate and multi-channel capabilities, it provides full support for image storage, replay and live monitoring.

The WJ-ND300's hard disk stores images transmitted by ethernet from up to 32 networked cameras. It is both MPEG4 and JPEG compatible, and can be connected to up to 32 MPEG4 cameras or 16 JPEG cameras.

Panasonic claims the recorder is easy to install 鈥 its Auto IP Setup feature automatically recognises Panasonic's WV Series cameras as soon as they are connected to the network, and Easy Start eliminates the need for separate IP addresses for individual cameras.

It features up to 1TB of storage, but can achieve 7TB with configurations encompassing up to six optional WJ-HDE300 Extension Units.

DeView has introduced its new Premium and Premium Plus range of Auto Iris/Varifocal CS Mount lenses.

The company says these offer premium performance in terms of low light sensitivity, resolution, picture clarity and reliability.

The Premium Lens has high quality glass elements, a metal CS mount, high contrast, low distortion, low f-stop rating, and is made in Japan. The Premium Plus Lens has ED glass elements for superior resolution with low distortion, IR corrected glass. aspherical lens design, very low f-stop, fast, accurate and automatic aperture control, and an ultra-compact design.

Eye on the cash

Geutebr眉ck and CMS Cash Management Systeme have developed a new monitoring solution for cash handling operations which enables accounting discrepancies to resolved quickly and efficiently without recounts or delays.

The system automatically inserts relevant data from the cash management software (customer number, branch, note denomination etc) into digital CCTV pictures as they are recorded. This enables the database of evidential quality video to be searched according to a wide range of criteria, and the relevant pictures and data to be retrieved in seconds.

Supervisors can quickly review all employee actions and machine processes to establish where the discrepancy arose. The system plugs into a TCP/IP network port at cash counting workstations. Geutebr眉ck says it "increases efficiency anywhere significant volumes of cash is processed, such as in banks and cash centres, retail chains or leisure operations".

Maxxess Systems is set to launch EndPoint, its new security management software platform.

Pelco on display

Pelco says its new 700 Series DLP display system is designed for the needs of the video security industry. A 50-inch rear-projecting display utilising digital light processing technology, the 700 series provides superior image quality, with zero burn-in over its 11 year life cycle, Pelco says.

The display is 18-inches deep, and the manufacturer claims it delivers the viewing area equivalent to that of 26 9-inch CRT monitors, but consumes only 80 per cent of the power and 20 percent of the physical space. Pelco claims it even uses 30 per cent less power than plasma displays.

According the Pelco, when set up with Multiviewers, each 700 Series display can be configured with up to 120 inputs, each scalable and able to be moved across any single display. In addition, the 700 Series can be stacked or nested together to form an impressive, state of the art video wall, the company says.

Klaxon Signals has made a number of additions to its Fire and Life Safety range. Among these is the new sub-range of products known as Sonos, which comprises electric sounders, sounder beacons, base sounders and compact sounders. Hoyles Electronic Developments has released its new 24 hour door alarm, Exitguard. The company says it is a simple solution for the security of fire doors in all types of buildings.

"Exitguard boasts a two position key switch for setting the alarm and integral high power sounder, which is activated when the door is opened," Hoyles says. "The sounder has two selectable tones making it easy to distinguish from other alarms in the vicinity.

"It can be silenced and rest using the key switch or can re-arm automatically after a preset delay once the door has been closed. A 'Door Open Too Long' delay of 15 seconds and a chime facility can be set during installation."

Skyguard claims to be the first service to combine a pocket-sized personal safety device, known as a SkyMinder, capable of raising an alarm, with operators at a 24 hour emergency response centre who take control of the situation using the latest technology.

Having verified the incident, they then organise swift assistance from either the emergency services or Skyguard's own mobile team.

the service is centred on software at the emergency response centre, developed by Skyguard, which can handle alerts from a range of SkyMinder Personal Safety devices, including GPS-enabled mobile phones. Once activated, it provides Skyguard's operators with personal details, photograph and precise location on large scale mapping as well as enabling communication with the worker in distress, before sending in help.

Group 4 Technology's new optional 星空传媒 Control module allows easy automatic control of building systems such as heating, ventilation, HVAC and lighting.

By monitoring activity at access control readers and using movement sensors, the building control module determines whether an area is occupied or unoccupied. This enables the security management software to switch devices such as HVAC units on or off depending on occupancy.

The 星空传媒 Control Module is available in version 6 of Group 4 Technology's MultiMax security management systems.

Sheffield-based firm Rocksure Systems Ltd's new Peoplesafe security device combines the latest mobile telephone technology with a range of alert options including sound recording, alarm raising and geographical tracking.

Discretely packaged in a unit containing the individual's identification badge, PeopleSafe enables the lone worker to covertly make a call which is answered and recorded, without taking the often provocative step of taking out a mobile telephone when an incident is taking place.

The Peoplesafe monitoring centre then follows a pre-agreed escalation procedure to provide the quickest and most appropriate assistance to the worker in distress, including alerting the emergency services if necessary. The system can also make recordings of the incident which are later admissible in a court of law.

Panasonic鈥檚 new WJ-HD88 Digital Disk Recorder is user-friendly and packed with convenient features, according to the manufacturer.
