Figures just released by market intelligence concern Key Note predict that the future growth of UK plc鈥檚 CCTV industry will be driven by integrated systems designed for use over IP networks.
Key Note鈥檚 report, entitled 鈥楥losed-Circuit TV鈥, suggests that after experiencing a difficult year in 2001, the UK market rallied to grow by 2.7% in 2002 to stand at a total value of 拢75 million (at end user prices). Although sales appear to have been maintained at or above these levels for the first half of this year, the forecast for the remainder of 2003 is somewhat uncertain.

Despite the strong international reputation of the UK CCTV industry and the good performance of overseas sales, equipment prices have continued to fall owing to increased competition from Far Eastern countries. The market鈥檚 continued shift from analogue to digital is helping to counter this.

Commenting on the report, Key Note鈥檚 Simon Taylor told SMT: 鈥淭he growing use of IT networks for surveillance is certainly changing the skills base needed by installers. It鈥檚 also bringing IT companies into the industry. This is one trend that looks set to continue.鈥
