Runners up
Hall Fire ProtectionHall Fire Protection is one of the UK's leading independent specialist fire suppression/engineering businesses. The judges felt this an excellent overall presentation with good financial performance, excellent staff retention, IIP accreditation and analysis of customer feedback, all while looking to develop the business into new niche markets. Turnover climbed to £5.6 million in 2002, up 27% from 2001. Profits were up a massive 210% to £431 000. Partnering is one of Hall Fire Protection's most important strategies for success, and over 80% of work is repeat business.
Imperial War Museum North
The extraordinary character of the museum, combined with the need to maintain the architect’s vision throughout all the engineering designs precluded off the peg solutions. The Connell Mott MacDonald building services team had to create and adapt ideas while constantly keeping in mind the function of the building and the safety and comfort of its occupants. This also made meticulous coordination and integration of components and systems essential. The building services design team was therefore closely involved throughout construction as well as at the design development stage.
Rolton Group
Judges commented on Rolton Group’s obvious commitment to a professional way of working, and also to training their staff. Rolton has many accreditations including IIP, ISO 9001 and 14001. They are also the first professional engineers outside the USA to gain Ford Motor Company Q1 accreditation, which measures quality and customer endorsement. The consutlancy has also demonstrated healthy growth with increased turnover of 90% in the last 30 months and profit forecast to rise 8% this year. Rolton has also been practising partnering principles for a number of years now, and has been used as a case study in the Reading Forum Seven pillars of partnering report.
