Housing Today's deputy news editor, Mark Beveridge, has scooped one of the most prestigious awards in magazine journalism.
Last week he was named Periodical Training Council New Journalist of the Year, beating hundreds of entrants from the business and consumer press.

Beveridge, 26, won the category of new journalist of the year in weekly business magazines and then went on to become the overall winner out of the eight different categories.

The judges said: "Mark is an extremely accomplished writer with a clear and focused view of his audience and an innate ability to communicate the technical complexities of his subject in an authoritative and lively way." They predicted: "A genuine rising star of the future, definitely one to watch."

Beveridge joined Housing Today 18 months ago after completing a postgraduate diploma at City University.

News editor Stuart Macdonald and reporter Ellen Bennett were also shortlisted for new journalist of the year in the weekly business magazine category. CMP Information, Housing Today's publisher, had nine out of the 11 journalists on the shortlist.
