The pros and cons of compression methods

H261	Very high (up to 2.500:1)	Low	25	Low	Handles videoconferencing well, and systems with large numbers of camers in the network. Not supported by Web Browers, so needs a special application to view
M-JPEG	Low	High	25	High	High quality suitable for applications where still images are required, and supported by Web Browers as standard. For systems with 25 or fewer cameras
Wavelet	High (up to 300:1)	Low	25	High	Very efficient on storage, so consider when this is a constraint. Not supported by Web Browers, and not widespread in the industry.
MPG	Low	Very High	25	Very High	Very high quality image, but high volumes mean suitable for single camera applications only. Destined to grow in importance, and the method used for DVD.
